111 & 1111: This is one of the first number sequences that people see popping up over and over again. This can appear as three ones or show up on the clock as 11:11. This is an initiation, a sneak peek at what is to come.
Seeing 111 is a small confirmation from the universe that what you’re manifesting is starting to come to fruition. Stay consistent and your path and you’ll see your manifestation come to reality.
222: Seeing 222 is a sign to stay focused as you are on the right path. It’s common to see this number sequence after seeing 111 for a while as a sign you are moving up.
333: This is all to do with balancing the body, mind and soul. Either you are coming into balance or you need to recenter yourself.
This can look like spending more time meditating, getting rest and spending time in nature. Do more of whatever keeps you balanced while you are advancing along your path.
This sequence can become apparent around full moons or when the moon enters your sun sign, as these are the times when heavy emotions come to the surface and we feel most off-kilter.
444: 444 is a sign from your spirit guides and angels that they are close by waiting for you to make contact. This number sequence can show up when we are on the threshold of big changes in our life but aren’t sure how to move forward.
555: 555 signifies that MASSIVE change is on the way for you. Your ability to manifest is coming to a tipping point; be very aware of your thoughts and emotions as these are manifesting your reality moment to moment.
This could signify that a move, new lifestyle or new job that you have been visualizing over the last years or months is finally around the corner.
Gaining Further Clarity
There are many more number sequences you may see other than the ones I’ve listed above. This can range from alternating numbers like 1212, dates of birthdays or special occasions and sequences that have more or less digits.
It’s not enough to simply see repeating numbers if you cannot tune into them further and know what direction they are guiding you towards.
While researching the meanings of different numbers online is a great way to get a basic overview of what they can mean, the syncroncities we see are often highly personal to us. ⠀ When synchronicities appear it’s as if they are taking a snapshot of what you are thinking of at that moment. Take note of what you were thinking about when different numbers show up.
Write down the running themes in your life for the past days/weeks and try to find a connection between the two. Number sequences often appear when we are focused on one topic or goal for a long period of time. ⠀ Perhaps you’re on the brink of a new job, manifesting a house, meeting a partner. Ask your guides for further clarification or get into the zone during meditation and ask your higher self what they means.

Considering how tumultuous 2020 has been, it’s no wonder so many of us are eagerly looking to the stars for reassurance. Luckily, fashion’s favorite astrologer Susan Miller is feeling positive about 2021. “We will emerge stronger, having gone through this,” she tells Vogue over the phone from her Manhattan home. “We’ll start the rebuilding process.”
Miller, who recently celebrated the 25th anniversary of her website Astrology Zone, has had a difficult few months, undergoing a vital eye operation in November. “It was a real writer’s nightmare—I couldn’t see my screen,” she says. Despite this, the astrologer has battled on, continuing to write a remarkable 45,000 words every month. “I love my readers so much,” Miller says of her commitment to her job. “I know they depend on me.”
In fact, Miller writes every single day, weekends included, to complete all her columns (including for Vogue Japan) as well as relaunching her astrology app this year. “That’s the hard, unglamorous part of this,” she explains. Still, she has managed to carve out some time for herself while quarantining in New York. “I’ve become Marie Kondo — I’m cleaning closets, the kitchen’s finished, I’m working on my bedroom,” she says. “I’d love to redecorate, but not in a pandemic.”
Here, we catch up with legendary astrologer Susan Miller about why more people are turning to the stars, her predictions for 2021, and her long list of celebrity fans that call her for advice.
Astrologically speaking, were there any signs that 2020 would be such a difficult year?
“The Saturn-Pluto conjunction was something we were worried about because it can signal abuse of power. I didn’t see the pandemic coming because I didn’t look for it; I had no idea that something like this could happen. When Jupiter and Pluto come together as they did on 4 April, it normally signals prosperity — I didn’t know that Pluto also rules viruses. Jupiter also has the effect of expanding anything it touches.
“When I looked up the horoscope for the Spanish Flu pandemic and saw that Jupiter and Pluto were conjunct in 1918, I almost fell off the couch! There was a big outbreak of yellow fever in 1795, and Jupiter and Pluto were also together for that. But I don’t want people to think that every time Jupiter and Pluto get together, we’re going to have a virus.”
What are your predictions for 2021?
“I think we’re going to be OK after 12 January—by then, Jupiter and Pluto will be further than eight degrees apart. It also happens to be a new moon in Aquarius, which rules all of us. There’s also a grand mutation on 21 December 2020. Every 20 years, Jupiter meets with Saturn; this is very important because it influences the arts, music and entertainment, fashion, the values of the time. Every time they’ve met in the past 200 years, apart from one exception, they’ve met in an Earth sign—this time they’re going to meet in Aquarius, which is an air sign.
“Because of this, it’s not what you own that’s going to be important—that’s Earth. Air is what you’ve experienced. What you’re contributing to the world matters more. Aquarius is the humanitarian sign; you’re going to see people helping people on a grand scale.
“Another big feature in 2021 is a dispute between Saturn and Uranus about what we should keep in our lives, and what needs to change. The environment is a very big goal to think about and that’s good because Uranus can innovate and come up with ways to save the planet. There’ll be a lot of innovation, as it will be the blooming of the Age of Aquarius.”
The one astrological event that everyone gets worried about is Mercury Retrograde. Is it as bad as everyone says it is?
“If you’re having a baby, Mercury Retrograde is always a good time to be born. It makes the baby more philosophical—Mercury is the planet of intellect and objectivity. But you shouldn’t sign contracts, you shouldn’t buy electronics. You shouldn’t take a new job or get married on Mercury Retrograde dates because they’re contracts.
“Last year, my agent told me about a girl who wanted to get married in May on a Saturday and wanted me to give her a good day. I had to say, ‘I’m so sorry but she can’t get married in May or April or June or on any of these days—I don’t like any of them.’ She ended up having to cancel because of the pandemic; she’s getting married in May 2021 now, which is a very nice month.”
I was supposed to be getting married in 2020 as well, in September, and we had to postpone until July 2021.
“July 2021 is a good month—there are no eclipses or Mercury Retrogrades. What star sign are you?”
“And you’re getting married in the first three weeks of July? That’s perfect for you then as it’s a water sign, Cancer. That’s good. A lot of brides get married within six weeks of their birthdays because it’s the sun conjunct with the sun, but you’re very smart to do it in the same element.”
Younger generations seem to be more obsessed with astrology than ever. Why do you think that is?
“A lot of millennials poured out of colleges in 2008 and 2009, in the middle of the terrible financial crash. Now, we have the pandemic. They’ve had unusual circumstances in their lives and haven’t felt security, so they’re looking for answers. Also, they can now read a variety of astrologers on the internet and see who they resonate with.”
It’s true: Astrologers did warn us about 2020. Aaand now they’re warning us about 2021—but don’t worry, they’re also providing legit helpful advice. We asked five ~cosmic interpreters~ five big questions about what to expect. Here’s what they said. (Now if you’ll excuse us, we’ll be over here breathing into a paper bag.)
HOW’S LOVE LOOKING? CAN I START PLANNING AN IRL WEDDING? OR AT LEAST AN IRL DATE?
Okay, so Saturn, planet of commitment, is in revolutionary Aquarius for the entire year, meaning we need to get even more creative about how we couple up. Aka it’s time to think out-side of Zoom, like with a (post-negative-COVID-19-test) socially distanced road trip, virtual concert, or phone sex. BTW, big days for romance are January 28 and May 17.
WHAT ABOUT MONEY? THAT $1,200 PANDEMIC CHECK DIDN’T LAST LONG….
Free financial tip: Save up in the beginning of the year. After a long retrograde (ew) in Aries, Mars enters Taurus on January 6, helping you focus on your bank account until March 3. Related: Venus dips into ambitious Capricorn from January 8 to February 1, which is v good news for promotions and new jobs. But global economic recovery won’t arrive until Jupiter enters Pisces on December 28 (yes, next December).
I ALMOST HATE TO ASK, BUT WHAT ABOUT U.S. POLITICS?
Inauguration season will be INTENSE, thanks to feverish energy from Mars’ connections with Saturn and Uranus in January. People will speak out, loudly, about what they think is right. In fact, 2021 is all about activism, with Saturn, planet of structure, and Uranus, planet of revolution, squaring off three times (on February 17, June 14, and December 24).
PLS BE HONEST: IS THERE ANY CHANCE THAT 2021 WILL BE EVEN MORE OF A TRASH FIRE THAN 2020?
Maybe?? 2020 had once-in-a-lifetime astrology—but it was all leading up to the United States’ Pluto Return on February 20, 2022. (What, you didn’t know that countries have birth charts? They do, and a Pluto Return is a BFD.) This year, we can expect more social unrest, climate crises, and tech breakdowns. Sounds scary, I know, but you’ll be part of the next chapter—and that’s a good thing.
Because every sign has a special way of leaving you on read for all of eternity✨
In casual dating, ghosting someone (or being ghosted) is so commonplace that it often feels like a matter of how rather than a question of when. In fact, one 2016 study found that 78% of millennials had been ghosted, and we’re betting that number’s gotten even higher since—especially if you include Gen Z.
Astro-stereotypes say that Sagittarians will never commit to a relationship—but hey, any star sign can ghost you! Obviously being ghosted is never your fault, and it’s not on you to figure out what you’ve done wrong (answer: nothing!), but astrologers say the stars can help you figure out exactly why and how any fair-weather bae might dip without notice. Will they leave you on read after texting for weeks, go MIA after your third date, or—the worst—date you for months and then disappear without a trace, leaving you wondering if they’re dead or just a terrible person?
Here’s how each sign ghosts and learn how to avoid being left on read, astrologically speaking.
Why an Aries ghosted you:
Aries is a fire sign—they burn fast, hot, and bright, keeping you warm from the very beginning. But then, like so many campfires and fancy candles, they burn out, leaving only smoke and ashes in their wake. As the first sign of the zodiac, they’re impulsive and spontaneous, and they dive head-first into romance. But as soon as the going gets rough (or a DTR convo is initiated), they might disappear. Their sign practically wrote the book on ghosting.
How to keep an Aries from ghosting:
The keyword for Aries is “new,” so as long as you keep them on their toes, you’re sure to keep the fire lit. Plan a weekend trip or an impromptu date night; surprise them, or give them a new vibrator. Even if that couples’ aerial yoga class is a disaster, Aries will prefer it to getting bored at the same bar you always go to.
Why a Taurus ghosted you:
Taureans—the first earth sign of the zodiac—are known for their steadfast loyalty. Once someone forms a relationship with them, they’ll do whatever it takes to maintain the bond. Romance is rather black-and-white for them (they’re extremely stubborn), so if they say they’re not interested in a relationship, the person they’re seeing needs to take that seriously. There’s nothing you can do to make a Taurus change their mind. In fact, if you have a major disagreement about your relationship status, it’s best to just give up and find a new boo. Don’t try to fight it—the bull won’t budge.
How to keep a Taurus from ghosting:
Taureans always stick to their guns, so the only way to avoid being ghosted by one is to steer clear from getting involved with an unavailable Taurean. The only sure way to win a bullfight is to not participate at all. There are plenty of bulls who are looking a LTR—Taureans love comfort, stability, and luxury, and dating one is a delicious treat. Just make sure you’re on the same page from the beginning. BTW, the same advice goes for if you’re looking to keep it caj—if you get involved with a relationship-minded bull, it’ll only end in tears.
Why a Gemini ghosted you: Ah, Gemini. Anyone who’s dating one should brace themselves for their signature vanishing act. This super-social, super-flexible sign is the most gifted at flipping the switch—after all, they’re basically two people! Geminis aren’t trying to be deceptive—they just get bored extremely easily. They have sooo many hobbies, interests, and different (and we mean totally different) friend groups that it can get exhausting trying to keep up. And if you can’t, well, sorry, but Gemini’s out. It’s easier for them to dissolve into thin air than explain themselves. They can use that time to learn a whole new language or film a TikTok vid, after all.
How to keep a Gemini from ghosting: Grab a shamrock and wish for the best. Not to be harsh, but if a Gemini sticks around, you’ll know that your bond is impenetrable. Even signs with similarly fast-paced energy can frustrate Gemini, if they’re not as flexible as they are. On the other hand, these fickle Twins sometimes vibes with more stable signs, like Taurus—it all depends on which personality they’re showing rn. If they do ghost, though, don’t worry—Geminis will always be that ghost who periodically slides into your DMs after they’ve gone missing!
Why a Cancer ghosted you: Cancers are extremely sensitive creatures. Just like the crustacean that symbolises their sign, they protect their soft interiors with hard, sturdy armour. Simply put, it’s hard for Cancers to open up. One of their greatest fears is unrequited vulnerability, so when it comes to ghosting, they usually dip before they get too close. And if you do gain their trust and they open up to you, but you hurt their soft lil crab feelings, they might shuffle away. At the end of the day, all they’re seeking is partnership that’s honest and dependable–so if they get flaky vibes, they’ll leave before they are left.
How to keep a Cancer from ghosting: Establish a safe space within your relationship early on. Let your Cancer know that their emotions are okay, and you’re down to celebrate all their feels. When a Cancer knows they’re safe, they stick around. And once you get to the point where your lil crab comes out of their shell, be careful!!! Understand that they’re super sensitive and do your best not to hurt their feelings. If you do upset your Cancer bae, apologise ASAP and try to make things right—or else they’ll soak in their hurt feelings, get resentful, and leave.
Why a Leo ghosted you: Leos make a terrific first date because they’re theatrical and love to entertain. They easily captivate acquaintances with stories, perks, and special talents. But they aren’t afraid to close the curtains on the romance. After all, they have so many fans—er, people crushing on them—that they might want to keep their option open. Besides, Leos love being part of a power couple, so if you don’t suitably impress them, they might choose to move on.
How to keep a Leo from ghosting: Try enchanting your Leo with a long, deliberate applause. Let them show off! Leos are seeking someone who’s more than just a partner—they’re also looking for a fan. Let your fabulous lion know they’re the best, and they’ll stan your relationship in return. BTW, don’t be modest on your date with a Leo—go ahead and drop the fact that you were your high school valedictorian or have 12,000 followers on Instagram. These lions don’t know the meaning of “humble,” and if they did, they’d think it’s boring. Why not show off your gorgeous mane?
Why a Virgo ghosted you: Though Virgos are known for their kindness, they’re actually one of the biggest ghosters of the zodiac because they can spot all of the incompatibilities very early on. They’re super smart and super analytical—and they expect perfection from everyone. They’d rather bounce ASAP than watch a relationship go downhill. This leaves people they ghost scratching their heads, especially since Virgos can seem SO into the relationship at first. But that’s the thing about Virgos: they seem all sweet and innocent at first, but they’ve got another, earthier side to ’em.
How to keep a Virgo from ghosting:
Unfortunately, once a Virgo has decided that a bond is doomed, there’s little you can do to convince them otherwise. But of course you want to keep them! So try appealing to their sweet nature. Small tokens of appreciation and acts of service go a long way with this practical earth sign—don’t be afraid to show your Virgo friend that you really care. And, BTW, know that Virgos are noticing even your smallest mistakes, so acknowledge them and apologise. If you show up twenty minutes late for a date but don’t remark on it, know that Virgo is silently stewing behind that smile. So if you got caught in traffic, tell your Virgo you’re sooooo sorry you kept them waiting—and then buy them a fancy gift to make up for it.
Why a Libra ghosted you: Symbolised by the scales, Libras are constantly trying to find harmony and balance within interpersonal relationships. But because their sign perceives itself as the “peer mediator” of the zodiac, they don’t want to be limited to just one bond. If they suddenly feel like a newfound relationship is becoming a bit too constrictive, they’ll simply drift away. Libras are also indecisive AF, so if they go on five dates with you, you might think you’re basically a couple, but they’re still in the getting-to-know-you-and-deciding-if-they-actually-like you phase.
How to keep a Libra from ghosting: Let them know you support their social obligations. Libra wants to attend six back-to-back happy hours? No problem, you’re down for it! As soon as they know you’re along for the ride, they’ll be sure to stick around. BTW, Libras love aesthetics and have a *chef’s kiss* sense of style, so give them tons of compliments. Their new hairstyle? Gorgeous. Their shoes? The most stylish you’ve ever seen. Their glasses? You wish your eyesight was terrible so you could wear the same style. In fact, you might even get some non-prescription ones so you can look as cool as they do.
Why a Scorpio ghosted you: Scorpios have a bit of a reputation as being, well, a lot. While not all astrological stereotypes are true, Scorps are intense and people need to be careful with them. Once they form an emotional connection, it’s not easy for them to let go. They protect their heart at all costs, which makes them an expert ghoster. And they hold a grudge unlike any other sign, so if you mess up, don’t expect to get a second chance.
How to keep a Scorpio from ghosting: Don’t act surprised if your Scorpio lets a little fact slip that they could have only learned from something you tweeted back in 2017. If it’s out there, expect your Scorpio to know it—and don’t try to keep secrets from them. If they do ghost you, it isn’t easy to change a Scorpio’s mind, but they are excellent at hauntings, since they have a hard time letting go. They will absolutely watch your Insta stories long after you called it quits.
Why a Sagittarius ghosted you: Symbolised by the celestial archer, Sagittarius is all about exploration, adventure, and discovery. What other people perceive as “ghosting” is simply their default spirit. They’re *all* about dipping, so people really shouldn’t take their vanishing acts personally. The archer is famously noncommittal—they’ll commit to the right person, but they have to be sure.
How to keep a Sagittarius from ghosting:
Embrace their roaming tendencies. They’ll feel confident in building a strong future together if you play the role of a co-pilot who’s always down for anything. And, BTW, don’t think that you’re an official couple if you haven’t had a real-life convo about it. Sure, it’s been seven months, but if you haven’t DTR, your Sag might think it’s just casual while you’re secretly planning your couple’s tattoos.
Why a Capricorn ghosted you: Capricorns are often painted as unemotional workaholics, and that’s not entirely true. They definitely know how to let loose and have fun, but when it comes to dating, the end needs to justify the means. They just don’t want to invest in a relationship that has no future, so if anything feels annoying or imperfect off the bat, they’re quick to lose interest. Caps often have an extremely detailed five-year plan, and if your goals don’t match theirs—or, worse, you don’t have any defined goals—they’ll dip.
How to keep a Capricorn from ghosting: Be very clear with what you want early on so your Capricorn can determine whether the relationship is feasible on their end. This earth sign really appreciates honesty, so when in doubt, always lead with the truth. And once you’re in with a Capricorn, don’t slack—these sea-goats appreciate hard work and planning, so you better have an itinerary and a budget for that weekend trip you’re suggesting.
Why an Aquarius ghosted you: Passionately humanitarian and highly intellectual, Aquarians are revolutionaries. They care deeply about equality, but have a difficult time applying these values to their interpersonal relationships. This makes them notorious flakes, because they struggle to know if they really *want* a relationship to begin with, or how to sort out their feelings for you. Aquarians are sometimes called “robots” because they can be so dispassionate—yes, they have feelings, but if they think they have a good reason for hurting yours, they won’t think twice about it. And, BTW, they’re also called the “weirdos” of the zodiac—and you don’t have to share their obsession with Area 51 conspiracy theories, but if you make fun of it, they’ll cut you loose.
How to keep an Aquarius from ghosting: If you start to notice your Aquarius lover pulling away, call them out with straightforward questions. Get real. The fastest way to their heart is through spirited debates and picking apart their non-committal b.s. And don’t hide your eccentric side from your Water-Bearer Bae. Aquarians love ~the unconventional~ so let your freak flag fly!
Why a Pisces ghosted you: Pisces are known for their incredible empathy and emotional depth. Symbolised by the fish, they’re highly intuitive and can pick up on subtle, extrasensory experiences that otherwise go unnoticed. But the breadth of their perception can be overwhelming, and in turn, they swim away quickly. After all, fast movements are a fish’s primary defence mechanism. BTW, Pisceans are incredibly romantic—they want that fairy-tale romance, handwritten love letters and poetry included. If your idea of romance is texting memes, Pisces won’t be impressed.
How to keep a Pisces from ghosting: These water signs have rich inner worlds, so they need to spend lots of time exploring their own psyches. If they seem absent from the relationship, they probably migrated upstream. Don’t try to catch ‘em—these mysterious creatures aren’t always meant for land. Pisces remind us that the journey is always the destination. So give ’em time to figure out their own minds—don’t push them to swim faster than they want to. And in the meantime, appreciate them like the mermaids they are.
Great article… explains some things in very simple terms. Obviously, once I found it I had to share. Calleen
Like most things in life, astrology carries a great deal of uncertainty with it. I don’t mean in terms of whether or not it’s real (it’s as real as the air we breathe and I won’t be told different), I mean as in like, how does it work?
Whenever I tell people that I’m an astrologer, I’m always bombarded with the same questions so I thought it’d be useful for me to spell them out for you below.
‘Cos after all, understanding astrology helps you understand yourself (and those around you).
What are astrological houses?
When you suss out your daily horoscopes, you might read something like, ‘As the Sun enters your financial house, you’ll see an upturn in finances.’
No, this is not a literal house filled with money (can you imagine?), each of the 12 houses of astrology relate to a different part of your life, from your relationships to your finances to your spirituality. Each one is designated based on your exact time of birth.
It’s a pretty tricky concept, but all you need to know is that a planet falling into your specific house impacts the aspect of your life it’s connected to, which is usually stipulated in your horoscopes.
What are astrological aspects?
As the planets make their way across the universe, they form angles to one another. These angles indicate the relationship between two planets and how they will work together and, in turn, impact your life.
Six of the most common astrology aspects are: conjunctions, sextiles, squares, trines, quincunxes and oppositions. Some planetary aspects have a positive influence on you, while others are negative.
Astrologers use these aspects to predict the energy and events that will occur in your life.
What is the difference between my Sun, Moon and Rising sign?
Ever been asked about your Sun, Moon, and Rising signs and you’re like, ‘WTF, I thought we only have one sign?’
Well, everyone has a full chart of astrology signs that they correspond to based on the time and place they were born, but the most important ones that define your personality are the Sun, Moon and Rising.
Sun Sign (the essence of you): That’s your main one. The one your birthday falls under. This one is basically the all-rounder that captures the essence of you are and how you think, which is why when you read your horoscopes, you needa suss out this one.
Moon sign (your emotions): Because the moon rules the tides, it also tells us about our feelings and all those emotions that are deep under the surface – the hidden parts of your personality that may not be immediately obvious.
In order to calculate your moon sign, you’re going to need a full birth date, year, and exact time/time zone. When you’ve got that, you can either consult an astrologer or use an online moon sign calculator (see below) to find out what sign rules your lunar self.
Rising / Ascendant sign (how you appear to the world): The version of you that people see at first glance. It’s likely that an astrology-loving mate may have assumed that you were this sign in the past ‘cos this is how you appear on the outside (in tandem with your sun sign).
In order to calculate your rising sign, you’re going to need your exact birth time and place (in addition to the date and year, of course), as rising signs change approximately every couple hours — meaning that even people born on the exact same date are likely to have different rising signs.
I’ve always used this fabulous calculator by AstroSofa.com that’s easy as and v. accurate.
Are cusps bullshit?
Ah, the age-old question: are cusps legit or nah?
In case you’ve never asked said age-old question, a cusp is when you’re born within a few days of the Sun’s transition from one sign to the next. This includes the following dates:
Aries-Taurus, aka the Cusp of Power: April 16–22
Taurus-Gemini, aka the Cusp of Energy: May 17–23
Gemini-Cancer, aka the Cusp of Magic: June 17–23
Cancer-Leo, aka the Cusp of Oscillation: July 19–25
Leo-Virgo, aka the Cusp of Exposure: August 19–25
Virgo-Libra, aka the Cusp of Beauty: September 19–25
Libra-Scorpio, aka the Cusp of Drama: October 19–25
Scorpio-Sagittarius, aka the Cusp of Revolution: November 18–24
Sagittarius-Capricorn, aka the Cusp of Prophecy: December 18–24
Capricorn-Aquarius, aka the Cusp of Mystery: January 16–23
Aquarius-Pisces, aka the Cusp of Sensitivity: February 15–21
Pisces-Aries, aka the Cusp of Rebirth: March 17–23
The belief is that being born on the cusp of two signs gives you a combination of traits from both, but this has been widely debated among astrologers for ages.
Personally? I reckon there’s definitely something to it. Despite astrology’s reliance on dates, times and planetary alignments, it’s not an exact science (obvs).
For example, whenever there’s a Full Moon, it’s believed that its powerful energy is accessible days before and days after. Also, when it’s Mercury Retrograde, there’s always what’s called a shadow period, where we’re likely to feel its impacts before and after it’s gone retrograde.
So by this logic, of course there’s a chance that our astrological traits are taken from two different signs if it falls while the Sun is transitioning.
What the hell is Ophiuchus and has my sign changed?
So basically a few years back, a rumour was floating around that NASA had “discovered” a 13th zodiac sign called Ophiuchus, otherwise known as the serpent-bearer.
Based on this logic, anyone born between November 29 and December 17 would no longer be a Scorpio or a Sagittarius, but an Ophiuchus.
As mass panic spread across the woo-woo community, NASA publicly told everyone to calm the fuck down as their discovery has no bearing on astrology.
“We see your comments about a zodiac story that re-emerges every few years,” the space agency wrote in a tweet. “No, we did not change the zodiac.”
This story seems to resurface every few years so let me put it to bed once and for all: stop trying to make Ophiuchus happen. It’s not gonna happen.
If you lived through 2020, then you can likely attest to the fact that it’s been intense — and the astrology of 2020 reflects that, too. 2020 was full of rare planetary alignments that have brought forth change and upheaval on a grand scale, including the epic Great Conjunction in Aquarius that will close out the year on December 21 and usher us into a new era. Now, as we prepare to set forth on a new year of astrological drama, it’s time to look ahead to the major astrological events of 2021 to see what the planets have in store for us.
A new year always brings a new cycle of planetary retrogrades to challenge us, a new series of eclipses to help align us with our fate, and a new batch of astrological aspects between the major planets that’ll stir up drama. While 2021 may not see quite as many retrogrades and doesn’t deliver anything as grand as a Great Conjunction, it still brings forth its fair share of notable and outstanding cosmic happenings — so you’ll want to mark your calendars for the most standout moments.
Ready to dive into the astrology of 2021 and all of its juiciest details? Read on for the full year’s scoop and get to marking up those new 2021 planners.
The Age Of Aquarius
The Great Conjunction in Aquarius taking place in late December will mark the first alignment of Jupiter and Saturn in the sign of the water bearer since 1405 — and the closest conjunction between the two celestial giants in nearly 400 years. With Saturn in Aquarius through 2023 and Jupiter remaining here for most of next year, too, we’re officially entering a period marked by this sign’s progressive, forward-thinking energy. This will be felt heavily in February 2021, during which a whopping seven planets (the sun, moon, Mercury, Venus, Jupiter, and Saturn, plus asteroid Pallas) will all be clustered together in the sign of Aquarius, creating what’s known as a stellium in astrology.
This intense influx of Aquarius’ fixed air sign energy in February will shift our focus to humanitarian issues, technological advancements, and unconventional innovations. And these themes will guide the framework of our society throughout all of 2021 and the years ahead.
Mercury Retrograde In The Air Signs
Continuing with the theme of air sign energy in 2021, we’ll get an added dose of it via the three 2021 Mercury retrograde periods, all of which will take place within the element of air — in the signs of Aquarius, Gemini, and Libra respectively. The first Mercury retrograde of the year begins on Jan. 30, the next on May 29, and the last on Sep. 27.
When Mercury retrogrades in these signs, we’ll have to deal with extra confusion in matters of communication and thinking, as the air signs are the most social and mentally-focused of the zodiac. However, this series of Mercurial backspins also give us an opportunity to press reset on the way we think and interact with one another, teaching us to be more thoughtful with our words and more intentional within both personal partnerships and community relations. Take the usual Mercury retrograde precautions and you’ll be just fine.
Eclipses In Gemini & Sagittarius
All of the lunar and solar eclipses throughout 2021 will take place on the Gemini/Sagittarius axis — meaning they’ll either be in one of these opposing signs or the other. As always, these fateful lunations will bring about dramatic revelations, sudden endings, and plenty of unexpected new beginnings. The first pair of spring 2021 eclipses arrive on May 26 and June 10, while the fall eclipses will hit on November 19 and December 4.
These Gemini- and Sagittarius-ruled eclipses will catalyze huge shifts in the way we think and communicate with our surroundings, as well as how we relate to the world at large. We’re learning to understand our emotions and relationships on a more logical level and changing up our personal belief system. Thanks to the eclipses, our spiritual compasses and thought processes might look different once 2022 rolls around.
A Steamy Venus/Mars Conjunction
Be prepared to turn up the heat this summer. When romantic and sensual Venus aligns with bold and passionate Mars, you can bet that there will be sparks — especially when they meet within the realm of a dramatic fire sign like Leo, as they will on July 13. A conjunction aspect between these two planets only occurs once every two years, and it’ll kick off a new cycle when it comes to relationships, sexual expression, and creativity. We’re getting bolder in the way we chase after what we want and being more expressive about what brings us pleasure.
While this steamy Venus/Mars conjunction will serve as the supercharged pinnacle of this glamorous cosmic connection, the love and sex planets will journey together through Leo from June 27 through July 21, giving us nearly a month to take advantage of this sweet n’ sexy harmony. On top of it, neither Venus nor Mars will retrograde this year, so things will be running relatively smoothly in their areas of rulership.
Friction-Filled Saturn/Uranus Squares
Let’s finally talk about 2021’s most significant series of planetary tussles that’ll define the course of the next year from start to finish: the Saturn/Uranus squares. Saturn is the planet of rules, restrictions, and traditions, and it’s spending the year in unconventional Aquarius. Uranus, on the other hand, is the change-making planet of awakenings and shock value, and it’ll be in the stubborn and grounded sign of Taurus for the duration of the year. These conflicting planetary energies will comehead-to-head on three separate occasions during the course of 2021, forming tense square aspects with each other on February 14, June 14, and one final time on December 24.
This friction-filled series of cosmic quarrels will cause serious clashes when it comes to blending old structures with new ways of thinking in society. Saturn’s restrictive energy will try to find ways to maintain tradition and cling to the past, while rebellious Uranus will push to shake-up the status quo and embrace futuristic innovations. These squares will challenge us to be more progressive and question our old belief systems, while completely rethinking what we thought was possible. Essentially, they’re teaching us to open our minds and change our ways to make the world a better place.
Most of us can agree that 2020 has been a year of significant shifts. Life as we know it has fundamentally changed, and this can be really hard. The good news is that the astrology transits of 2021 offer an optimistic outlook. According to the cosmos, there’s a new chapter unfolding, and there’s a chance to be the change we want to see and build new ways of being . . . together.
As an astrologer, I look at the patterns, transits, and cycles of the planets. It’s not that these celestial bodies are doing anything to us, but they are currents of light flowing all around us. When we know which way the current is flowing, we can choose which way we want to swim. The astrological trends for 2021 are collaboration, creativity, and fresh beginnings. Here’s what it all means.
1. The Great Conjunction: Jupiter and Saturn in Aquarius
A conjunction is a fancy way of saying two planets are coming together at the same point in the sky. In this case, we have Jupiter and Saturn. Astrologers call this the great conjunction because it’s a pretty big deal (the last time this aspect occurred in Aquarius was the early 1400s). As we enter this cycle of opportunities, innovation, and connection, it’s as if that coveted Age of Aquarius is starting.
There’s been hype around the Age of Aquarius for centuries. It’s a new age of humanity coming together. From an astrological outlook, 2021 is the beginning of many Aquarius-themed transits. Beginning with the great conjunction, Saturn will remain in this sign for nearly three years and Jupiter for one year. Then in 2023, Pluto will enter Aquarius, where it will stay for 20 years. Although there’s no proving it, given that there are so many planets moving through Aquarius, we can imagine that this new age is finally beginning.
We can look back at the last time these transits occurred to learn and improve moving forward, like reviewing an exam before retaking it. When we spend time reflecting, we build new outcomes instead of repeating history. Back in the early 1400s, which was the last time Saturn and Jupiter joined together in Aquarius, the Renaissance began. During this period of history, attitudes changed and what it meant to be human took on new meaning. Art emerged and the human experience became valuable. This period saw the end of the dark ages. It moved humanity out of a time of plagues and social class disparities.
Aquarius energy cares about the whole, and its focus is on the greater good. It’s the team player who gives all people a seat at the table, not just a privileged few. Beginning in 2021, we can expect an emphasis on inclusion, diversity, and the dismantling of oppressive systems; it’s a time of evening the playing field.
We can also reflect on our lives to see what themes emerged back then and what those periods taught us. That wisdom will be valuable for moving forward. Can we see connections between those periods of history and now? Are we open to diverse voices and demographics taking power and becoming leaders? Are we ready for new technology and innovation? Like the times before the Renaissance, we have been in some dark experiences. Could we be on the verge of a renaissance, which means rebirth in English?
Sagittarius is about expansion, potential, and what’s possible, but things are only possible if we believe them, so this energy is connected to our beliefs. Sag wants us to see the glass half full — it wants us to dream and use our imaginations.
Gemini energy is about curiosity, humor, and having fun, but just because that’s the lesson doesn’t mean it is going to be easy. If we are willing to take the assignment, our homework is to change our beliefs, open our hearts, learn from each other, and have fun! An eclipse on Dec. 14, 2020, is teaching us this, big time. There will also be eclipses on May 26 and June 10, 2021, that call in these themes.
3. Venus and Mars Joining Forces
In 2020, both Venus and Mars retrograded. Instead of things flowing smoothly, it was a year of digging deep and retracing our steps. The planet of relationships (Venus) and the planet of action (Mars) will not retrograde in 2021, which means smoother sailing ahead.
Not only will Venus and Mars move forward, but they will also come together in Leo. The conjunction is occurring from the end of June 2021 through July 2021. This connection is like a reunion of feminine and masculine energy, which plays out in our internal and external worlds. It’s a time for harmonious relationships, creativity, and playtime.
There’s Hope For 2021
The astrology of 2021 brings a ton of potential. The Aquarian transits are teaching humanity the importance of sharing the stage and serving the greater good. There is a seat for everyone at this table, not just a few with the privileged VIP pass. The eclipses are expanding our horizons and reminding us that solutions come from learning. Lastly, this summer, Venus and Mars come together, giving a dose of open-hearted energy that urges us to own our passions and create a new chapter.
